POLYCITY is a project of the CONCERTO initiative co-funded by the EC within the FP6
Projects
Act²
The ACT² (Advanced Customer Technology Test for Maximum Energy Efficiency) project marks the first time that energy efficiency measures (EEMs) -- such as advanced technologies for lighting, cooling, and insulation -- have been used as components of integrated systems. Since most of these EEMs have already been rigorously tested and proven individually, ACT2 is focusing on the cumulative, energy-related synergistic effects that EEMs can have when used in integrated packages.
Crescendo Combined Rational and Renewable Energy Strategies in Cities, for Existing and New
Dwellings to ensure Optimal quality of life, is the full title of the project that is carried out by
the four cities (Almere (NL), Milton Keynes (UK), Viladecans (E) and Ajaccio (F)). It aims to integrate a major share of sustainability into more than 6,000 new
and existing homes and their energy infrastructure in order to demonstrate the possibility,
feasibility and most importantly to meet the citizens' wish to live in a comfortable energy
efficient home in a healthy and clean environment. The demonstrations that are briefly
described below will be combined with extensive research, training and dissemination
activities.
Eco-buildings
This is a common portal for four Eco-buildings demonstration projects (BRITA in PuBs, DEMOHOUSE, Eco-culture and SARA).
The portal will provide common information on project development and links to the individual projects and other relevant sites.
Eco-Ctity SS
Ecostiler
ECOSTILER is all about a coordinated approach in achieving energy efficient communities. The common and main element is the use of biogas and district heating systems, successful tools in reduction of primary fuel consumption and CO2 reduction. The interesting complementarity is the size of the community, ranging from large to small.
Energy in minds
Energy in Minds! aims at demonstrating that substantial reductions in fossil energy consumption and CO2-emissions can be achieved cost-efficiently within four years by implementing a coordinated set of RES, RUE and information measures. The four participating communities with 25.000 to 40.000 inhabitants each are amongst the most advanced in energy questions within their countries.

POLYCITY
Renaissance
Renewable ENergy Acting in SuStainable And Novel Community Enterprises - The project, baptised Renaissance, will enable high standards of energy efficiency and green (renewable) energy technologies to be built into plans for the redevelopment of the three towns (Bracknell (UK), Zaragosa (ES) and Lyon (FR)).
Each community will take similar actions to increase the take up of sustainable energy and learn from one another in the process.

SARA
SARA aims to construct sustainable, cost effective, high energy performance, public-access eco-buildings that are immediately replicable at large scale in many locations. The eco-buildings will be equipped with advanced sustainable energy technologies integrated by an innovative architectural approach and combined monitoring and building management systems (BMS).
Given that public-access buildings tend to have relatively intense energy consumption the overall impact in terms of energy savings and pollution reduction will be particularly significant.
Sesac
Advanced cities wants to mitigate their greenhouse gas emissions further together with local stakeholders and researchers and show how sustainable energy systems can be achieved through incorporating innovative technologies and systems. The project will be supported by researcher to ensure the quality of the measures and city networks to make the results available to other cities and industry through dissemination.

Shada
The SHADA (Sustainable Habitat Design Adviser) project aims to be a sustainable design advisory service that will become a major source of information related to sustainable building design. Specific objectives of this project include generating awareness and creating a knowledge base of sustainable building design and its environmental benefits; assisting building professionals to identify sustainable solutions to any design problem; and strengthening the capacity of building practitioners to implement sustainability measures in new and existing buildings.
Tetraener
A project in the sixth Framework Programme of the EU - Part of "Concerto" for the development and realization of rational energy supply methods and high efficient buildings by the use of renewable energies
Universol
The main objective of the project is to install a significant number of medium-large grid-connected PV systems in educational and cultural facilities in four State-members (Spain, France, UK an the Netherlands). Wishing to establish the foundations on which the campuses and municipalities of the future can be built in a sustainable way, the participants (universities, technical training organisations, regional governments and municipalities, cultural centres, utilities and enterprises) also aim at raising social awareness on energy issues an actual possibilities of PV technology.
