Location
Cerdanyola del Vallès is a city located in the outskirts of Barcelona. The area comprises a surface of 32,000 m_ and provides space for 57,830 inhabitants. Approximately 30% of the surface consist of a protected area named “Parc de Collserola”. It is of high ecological value and should therefore be classified as a protected area soon.
2,000 m_ of this area is not yet developed. The local administration is striving to protect this part as a green area to guarantee the diversity of species living in this habitat. However, regarding the strategic situation within Barcelona, this project is very difficult to master because of the rising building compression and soil speculation.
But this area will also be part of the project POLYCITY. The development of the area will be carried out with regard to 3 criteria which will allow to achieve a sustainable urban development: city fusion, social and ecological sustainability. The goal of the project in Cerdanyola del Vallès is to develop an area, which links different parts of the region and is urban in relation to scientific developments.
